Cricket Formats and Tournaments — which one should you bet on?

Much of the enjoyment in cricket betting depends on which format is being played. The three main formats — T20, ODI and Test — each have their own pace and character.

T20 is the fastest. Just twenty overs of play, so the picture can change at any moment. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are played in this format. Cricket fans in Bangladesh are especially enthusiastic about BPL and the ICC T20 World Cup.

ODI is a fifty-over contest. Both strategy and patience matter here. In every Tigers series, ODI matches carry their own significance.

Test cricket is a five-day battle. A draw is a possible result, so the betting market is structured differently. Compared to T20, the match winner market in Test cricket sees much more movement.

pvip Football and Other Sports Betting

Football and other sports betting — what is the difference?

At pvip you can bet not only on cricket but also on football and a few other sports. In football's match winner market three results are possible — Team A wins, Team B wins, or a draw. In ODI or T20 cricket there is no draw, so the market is limited to two teams.

In football, goal line (over/under goals), both teams to score, and handicap betting are common. The cricket equivalents are run line, wicket markets, and over-by-over betting.

The key difference is the length of play and the nature of breaks. In cricket, innings provide multiple betting opportunities at each stage, whereas in football opportunities arise within each half and at half-time. Understanding these differences makes it easier to choose the right market.

Popular cricket betting markets

At pvip you can bet on multiple markets in a cricket match. Each market has its own strategy and appeal.

Match Winner

Bet on which of the two teams will win. In T20 or ODI there is no draw — Team A wins or Team B wins, just two options.

Simplest market

Toss Betting

You can bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. This is a completely separate market — it has no connection to the match result.

Result known quickly

Top Batsman

Bet on which batter will score the most runs in a specific innings or across the whole match. Cricket knowledge is particularly useful here.

Player-based market

Total Runs Over / Under

pvip sets a specific run total. For example — will the total runs in an innings be more than 160 (over) or fewer (under)? That is the bet.

Runs-based market

Multi Bet (multiple matches)

Place bets on multiple matches at once and multiply the odds. If all bets are correct the return is much higher — but if one bet is wrong you lose everything.

High return potential

Wicket Market

Bet on how many wickets will fall in a specific over or across a whole innings. This market is especially active in live betting.

A simple guide to understanding odds — three formats

Odds are a bookmaker's numerical expression of probability. The same odds can be written in three different formats — decimal, fractional and American.

Example 1 — how much do you get if Team A wins?

The same value in three formats: stake ৳200

2.25 Decimal
5/4 Fractional
+125 American

If Team A wins: ৳200 × 2.25 = ৳450 returned (৳250 profit + ৳200 original stake). If Team A loses you lose ৳200.

Example 2 — betting on the favourite

Team B is the favourite, stake ৳200

1.25 Decimal
1/4 Fractional
-400 American

If Team B wins: ৳200 × 1.25 = ৳250 returned (৳50 profit). American minus (-) odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100.

Decimal odds are the easiest to calculate — just multiply your stake by the odds. Fractional is mainly used in the British market, and the American format is most common in the United States. pvip generally uses decimal odds.

Live In-Play Betting

Odds shift when wickets fall — how live betting works

In-play or live betting means placing bets while a match is in progress. It is completely different from pre-match betting — because here odds can change after every ball.

Say Team A is batting and has scored 50 runs in the first five overs without losing a wicket. At that point Team A's odds of winning will shorten (meaning they become the favourite) and Team B's odds will lengthen. If two wickets then fall in quick succession, the picture can reverse again.

Similarly, if the required runs in the final over are high, the odds on the runs-under market will also shift. In the wicket market, each wicket creates a fresh opportunity to place a bet.

Live betting requires the ability to make quick decisions. The pvip App shows live scores and updated odds together, which is very useful for this type of betting.

pvip Cricket Betting — Practical Tips

Practical tips for cricket betting

Betting is a form of entertainment. Results are never certain, so the most important thing is to set limits and enjoy it within them.

  • Set a budget: Decide in advance how much you will stake each session and do not go beyond that limit.
  • Bet on formats you understand: T20 and Test matches move at different speeds. Bet on the format you know well.
  • Start with one market: In the beginning, get experience with the match winner market only, then try other markets.
  • Be careful with multi bets: Combining multiple bets multiplies your potential return, but one wrong selection and you lose the entire multi bet.
  • Do not rush in live betting: In-play betting changes fast — it is better not to place large bets driven by emotion.
  • Play responsibly: Betting is for entertainment only. If you lose, the smart move is not to place more bets trying to recover those losses. Read the responsible gaming policy.

Cricket betting FAQs

T20 is the simplest format for new bettors because matches finish quickly and there are only two possible results (no draw). ODI offers more overs, giving more room for analysis. In Test cricket a draw is a valid result, so the market is a bit more complex — you need to consider three possible outcomes (Team A wins, Team B wins, draw).

Calculating a return from decimal odds is straightforward — multiply your stake by the odds. For example: odds 2.25, stake ৳200 — if you win you get back ৳450 (৳250 profit + ৳200 original stake). At odds of 1.25 a ৳200 stake returns ৳250 (৳50 profit). The lower the odds, the more that outcome is considered a favourite.

In general, two related markets from the same match cannot be placed in the same multi bet — bookmakers treat this as a "conflicting bet". For example, Team A match winner and Team A top batsman may not be allowed in the same multi. Bets from separate matches can always be combined in a multi bet.

During a BPL match, odds in the live betting market change after every wicket and big over. If a team scores few runs in the first innings, chasing in the second innings looks easier — the odds on the team behind will shorten. Multiple options are available, including wicket markets and runs-in-a-specific-over markets.

No, many types of markets are available in cricket. Beyond match winner there is toss betting, top batsman, total runs over or under, wicket markets, powerplay runs, and multi bets. All of these markets are available at pvip.
